Abstract

No region of the world is entirely free from the problems of providing adequate food for its population, such problems are blooming more acute in over populated Asian counties like India and China. Thus our agricultural system is facing a challenge of feeding about 6.3 billion persons projected for the year 2000. Green Revolution represents one of the major attempts in facing this challenge as it demonstrated that much more effective use could be made of cereal crops in the tropics than had previously been thought feasible, Until now this attempt has been based entirely on the production of cereal crops and its momentum seems to be slowing down.
