Abstract
The brief politico-economic history of Nigeria discussed in Chapter II indicates that Nigeria is comparatively a young nation; crated only in 1914 although the area had been separately administered by various British interests a few decades before. One of the most pressing tasks initially faced by the British administration was the establishment of law and order in an area hitherto characterized by strife and tribal warfare. By the time self-government status was achieved in mid to late 1950's the country had not yet been industrialized. Agriculture remained the preponderant economic pursuit of the natives.
