Abstract
Until the latter part of 19th century, the peanut crop was considered as disease-free. Its intensive cultivation over large areas brought to light a number of peanut diseases. Among the various peanut diseases, Cercospora leafspot is generally recognized as one of the most important. The leafspot organism is worldwide and is found in practically every peanut-producing area. When the crop is left unprotected, the losses due to leafspot disease are estimated to be about 5-30% in yield of nuts and a 40% reduction in yield of hay.
