Abstract
In the study of Indian economic history there have been two main lines of argument--the nationalist and the imperialist."The long discussion of railroads" impact on India's economy and social structure has been a microcosm of this larger debate. As with all other aspects of British rule, nationalists have stressed that railroads had destructive effects on India.
