Abstract

The total value of the world trends in 1969 in oil seeds and their products as reported in the 1970 FAO Trade yearbook (Food and Agriculture Organization of the united Nations. 1970 b) Amounted to almost four billion US dollars. Around two billion was in the form of seeds, 1. 1 billion in the form of oil and 0. 9 billion in the form meals and cakes. Groundnuts are among the major oilseeds of the world. They account for approximately 15 percent of the dollar volume of trade in oil seeds, 11 percent of the volume of vegetable oil and 14 percent of the volume of meals. The data in table 1 give an illustration of the relative importance of the major oilseeds.
