Abstract

Hybridization, followed by evaluation of the segregating progenies, constitutes the basis of breeding procedures for many self pollinated crops. The time and effort required to initiate the hybrid and subsequently to screen large segregating populations over a number of generations have been a major deterent in the efficiency of many breeding procedures.
