Abstract
A field test on the influence of different sources and rates of Zn on the yield, and Zn and P compositions of peanuts (var.Starr) was conducted on an alkaline sandy soil where peanuts were suspected to be Zn deficient. At low rates of application, the Zn chelates (Zn EDTA, Zn NTA, Zn Reax, and Zn Rayplex) gave significantly higher yields than their non-chelated counter parts (ZnSo4, Zn Frit and Trend). Zn chelates applied at about 1 kg Zn/ha gave yields near 3,232 Kg/ha of unshelled peanuts; whereas, from ZnSo4 about 30 Kg Zn/ha were required to attain equivalent yields. The highest rate of znSo4 (90 Kg/ha) sharply depressed yield, presumably due to Zn toxicity. Zn Frit and Trend, shich were applied only at 3 Kg Zn/ha, gave yields similar to ZnSo4 when applied at the same rate.
