Abstract

Sorghum, the great millets, is mostly self fertilized but cross-pollination takes place frequently. The methods of breeding developed in the past towards the improvement of the crop have been essentially similar to those adopted for self pollinated crops. In often cross fertilized species hybridization between unlike genotypes results in new gene combinations, which over a period of natural selection, may prove to be superior to their parents.
