Abstract

The development of cultivated species and the breeding of new varieties typically rely on the availability of biological diversity, arising from long-term evolutionary processes. To evaluate the robustness of marker systems in detection of DNA polymorphism, 10 random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and 09 simple sequence repeats (SSR) were used to genetically differentiate fourteen genotypes of pigeonpea and establishing phylogenic relationships. The RAPD and SSR primers could unravel the latent diversity present in the pigeon pea germplasm and cluster them according to their geographical origin and phylogeny
