Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the rabi-summer of 2002-05 to study the population dynamics and to find out the effectiveness of insecticides and bio-pesticides against Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) on groundnut. H. armigera population was reached its peak on groundnut in coastal Karnataka during the month of February. The mean larval population/plant during February ranged from 1.43 to 2.06 larvae/plant. Among the insecticides and bio-pesticides evaluated against H. armigera, the insecticide quinolphos (0.05) recorded the least leaf damage of 9.55% and it was at par with chlorpyriphos (0.05) (11.22%). Highest pod yield of 9.86 q/ha was recorded with chlorpyriphos (0.05) followed by quinolphos (0.05) 9.41 q/ha. The maximum cost:benefit ratio of 1:6.12 was obtained in quinolphos (0.05)
