Abstract

Plant parasitic nematodes are hidden enemies of almost all the agricultural and horticultural crops. The lesion nematodes Pratylenchus spp. is described as one to the major limiting factor in crop production especially in chickpea. A survey was conducted during rabi 2001 in chickpea cropped fields in different blocks viz., Sirmour, Raipur, Hanumana, Mangawan, Gangeo, Teothar, Jawa, Rewa in Rewa district to find out the hot spots of lesion nematode occurrence per cent frequency and their average population/200 cm3 were analyzed. The population of nematode was above 1,000/200 cm2 soil was observed in Sirmour, Raipur, Hanumanan, Mangawan, Gangeo, Teothar, Jawa and Rewa accordingly, these localities were demarked and documented as hot spot and lesion nematode prone localities. This population may be alarming and higher level of threshold of damage will minimize the chickpea cultivation. Fifteen soil inhibiting fungi were isolated from the Pratylenchus prone soils of different localities and isolated fungi were identified and attempts were made to find out their antagonistic behavior against Pratylenchus thomei. Plants inoculated with 10,000 N showed significantly lower number of rhizobium nodules over 10 N and control but was statistically identical with 100 N and 1,000 N.
