Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the response of pigeonpea to seed polymer coating on crop growth, seed yield and quality of pigeonpea [Cajanus cajana (L.) Millsp] during kharif of 2011-12. The experiment consisted of eight seed treatments with three replications were laid out in simple randomized block design. The results of the present investigation revealed that T8 (deltamethrin 2.8 EC at 0.3 ml/kg seeds+vitavax power at 3 g/kg seed+polymer seed coating at 5 ml/kg seeds) was found to be significantly superior in growth and yield parameters viz., plant height (206.78 cm), number of primary branches (18.12), number of secondary branches (25.16), number of pods/plant (231.33), pod yield per plant (78.85 g), seed yield per plant (40.35 g), seed yield/hectare (16.79 q/ha) as compared to untreated control. The laboratory studies on seed quality indicated that all the seed quality parameters viz., 100 seed weight, germination percentage, seedling length, seedling dry weight, vigor index and electrical conductivity were found to higher in seeds obtained from T8 compared to other treatments
