Abstract

Four C. isolates (2 of C. helenae, C. striatus and a C. sp.) degraded bagasse over a 62-d fermentation period, causing wt loss, reduction in lignin content and release of reducing sugars. Culture filtrates of all 4 hydrolysed carboxymethyl cellulose, filter paper and cotton. The possible utilization of this group of fungi for composting plant material is discussed
