Abstract

Genotypes from a cross between groundnut cv. Chico and Florigiant and the reciprocal cross were compared with Florigiant for relative susceptibility to early and late leafspot (caused by Cercospora arachidicola [Mycosphaerella arachidis] and Cercosporidium personatum [M. berkeleyi] respectively). Variation in resistance, especially to M. arachidis was found. High yielding genotypes with greater resistance than Florigiant were identified. Differences in susceptibility from reciprocal cross populations indicated that a cytoplasmic factor and additive genetic effects may control resistance.
