Abstract
In North Carolina, 56 groundnut lines previously selected for resistance to early leafspot (Cercospora arachidicola [Mycosphaerella arachidis]) were evaluated in the field against late leafspot (C. personata [M. berkeleyi]) and 11 lines with the fewest lesions and their parents were screened in the greenhouse for resistance components. These lines had smaller lesions and fewer conidia than NC 3033. Latent periods were 23-26 d compared with 20 d in NC 3033. GP-NC 343 and NC 5 were the most resistant parents with latent periods of 24 d each. The rank of an entry in the greenhouse for latent period, lesion area and amount of sporulation was correlated with the rank in the field.
