Abstract
In field trials, phorate and carbofuran were used against the tobacco thrips (Frankliniella fusca) and the potato leaf hoppers (Empoasca fabae) infesting different groundnut varieties having different growth habits. Also these insecticides in addition to Mocap (prophos) and diazinon were used against the southern corn rootworm (Diabrotica undecimpunctata howardi). The results showed that there was an erratic control of these insects which was associated with the use of insecticides on the bunch type of groundnuts, viz. NC Ac 15754, NC Ac 15753 and Shulamit. It is indicated that the groundnut variety should be considered an integral part of an insect control programme.
