Abstract
19 Rhizobium strains showed wide variation in effectiveness in N fixation with groundnut cv. Virginia Florigiant. 5 strains isolated as resistant to streptomycin or kanamycin were used as inoculants in field studies. Assessment of strain competitive ability was complicated by isolation of kanamycin-resistant strains from uninoculated plots. Inoculation gave air-dried pod yields of 527-929 kg/ha compared with 511 kg in uninoculated plots.
